Bank Transfer Share by Country (Heat Map)
See what share of consumer payments runs through bank transfers in each country, on an interactive global heat map.
About this Insight
Bank transfer share captures the part of the payment mix that moves directly between bank accounts — through instant payment schemes, open-banking-initiated payments and traditional online banking transfers used at checkout. A country's color depth shows whether account-to-account rails carry a meaningful slice of everyday payments or remain a niche channel. Use this map to size demand for A2A acceptance in a new market, decide whether bank transfer support is table stakes or an upside option, and benchmark any country against the wider picture. Hover any country for its bank transfer share; click for the full payment mix, the top payment methods used locally and a link to the country guide. Read this map alongside the Card Share and E-Wallet Share heat maps to see how the rest of the payment mix is distributed. Figures are sourced from PayAtlas country research and refreshed as new market data lands.
Insight FAQ
What does the Bank Transfer Share Heat Map show?
It maps what share of consumer payments in each country settles directly between bank accounts — through instant payment schemes, open-banking-initiated payments and traditional online banking transfers. A country's color depth reflects its bank transfer share: darker means account-to-account rails carry a larger slice of payments, lighter means a smaller slice.
How do I read this heat map?
Hover any country to see its bank transfer share and the full payment mix. Click for a side panel with the breakdown: payment mix across the three core rails, top payment methods used locally, country profile and a link to the country guide.
What counts as a "bank transfer" here?
Any consumer payment that settles directly between bank accounts: instant payment schemes, open-banking-initiated payments, and traditional online banking transfers used at checkout. Card payments and wallet top-ups that are later settled through a transfer are not counted in this share.
Is bank transfer share measured by transaction count or value?
It is a share of consumer payment activity, normalized so that the three core rails (cards, bank transfers, e-wallets) plus any remaining channels add up to the country total. It is not the same as wire transfer volume, ACH volume or bank account penetration.
How can this insight help my business?
Use account-to-account share to decide whether bank transfer acceptance is table stakes or an upside option in a target market. In A2A-led markets, a real bank transfer integration is essential to compete on conversion and cost. In low-share markets, you can lean on cards or wallets first and add bank transfers selectively.
Who is this map for?
Merchants entering new countries, PSPs sizing demand for A2A acceptance, and product teams shaping payment-method selection at checkout. Treasury and finance teams use it to understand local payout norms and settlement expectations.
Can I combine this with other PayAtlas insights?
Yes. Pair this map with the Card Share and E-Wallet Share heat maps to see the full payment mix per country, and with Payment Methods Coverage to check which specific account-to-account schemes are available where you operate.
