MCP for crypto payment gateways: real demand or our own wishful thinking?
What if you could manage your crypto payment operations without opening a dashboard or digging through API docs — just by talking to an AI assistant?
Imagine connecting a payment gateway to Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP-compatible client and asking it to:
- Integrate: help configure a project, generate integration code and troubleshoot webhooks.
- Operate: create invoices, check payment statuses and manage payouts.
- Analyze: break down transaction volume by network, investigate failed payments and explain conversion drops.
Sounds useful. But is it something merchants actually want, or are we building for ourselves?
I'd love to hear from people working with crypto payments — merchants, payment providers, developers and integrators.
A few questions for the community:
- Have merchants or clients actually asked for AI-powered payment management? Any real use cases?
- Would read-only analytics be enough, or would you let an AI agent create invoices, change settings or initiate payouts?
- If you've experimented with MCP and payment infrastructure, what worked — and what didn't?
- What would be the biggest blocker to adoption: security, permissions, compliance, reliability or simply a lack of demand?
My take: read-only access could be the easiest starting point. Anything involving money movement would require much stricter controls.
Curious to hear real-world experiences, especially from teams already experimenting with this.
